“My client was in this country illegally. He was charged with assaulting a family member which if convicted would have resulted in automatic deportation. I set the case for a jury trial and the District Attorney’s Office had to reevaluate their position. One week before trial, the case was reduced to a class C misdemeanor (the equivalent of a speeding ticket) and the family violence portion was dismissed. As a result my client will not be deported.”
